QUESTION:
On Number 26 we have an answer and the calculator
supports us, but we don't know how to support it by hand.
ANSWER:
To divide complex numbers by hand, you must multiply the
top and bottom of the fraction by the conjugate of the denominator. Then FOIL
on top and apply the difference of squares on the bottom.
QUESTION:
On Number 36, does the log change to ln when you add it?
ANSWER:
No, log does not automatically change to ln when you add
it. There is a "Change of Base" property that you must use to convert from
one log base to another.

QUESTION: We were wondering
how to do question 10. We cannot remember what "Gory Land" was nor can
we find it in our notes!
ANSWER:
Absolute value inequalities were covered in section 2.8 of
our notes last year, so it was fairly early in the year. Absolute value
statements are always rewritten into two cases without using the absolute
value bars--a positive case and a negative case. And when you are doing the
two cases with an inequality, you have to remember to flip the inequality sign
for the negative case. GORY LAND was a mnemonic device to remember which case
gets the OR (greater than G & OR) and which gets the AND (less than L & AND).
Hope that helps you locate the examples in your notes and recall the rules for
them.
